1944 – 2016

RUMFORD — Shirley Ann Cote, 71, a resident of Wyman Hill Road in Rumford, died on Tuesday, Jan. 19, at Rumford Hospital.

She was born in Rumford on Feb. 9, 1944, a daughter of Joseph and Marie Ange (Boucher) Simard. She attended Rumford schools and Mid-State College and she earned an associate degree in accounting. She worked at Diamond Match in the swab department.

Shirley loved knitting, gardening, cooking, camping and above all, spending time with her grandchildren.

She was married in Rumford on May 2, 1960, to John A. Cote who survives of Rumford. Other survivors include two daughters, Tammy Ferland and her husband, Edward, of Peru and Brenda Bernard and her husband, Owen, of Dixfield; two sons, Mark and his wife, Marie, of Rumford and Christopher and his wife, Lisa, of Peru; nine grandchildren, Matthew Ferland and his fiancée, Brittany Milligan, Chelsea and Austin Bernard, Aaron, Krista, Kaitlyn and Andrew Cote, Becky Cote and her companion, Matthew Berthiaume, and Samantha Cote and her companion, Craig Wade; a great-granddaughter, Millie Ann Ferland; four brothers, Joseph Simard and his companion, Jean Gammon, of Andover, Robert Simard and his wife, Anita, of Rumford, Roger Simard of Rumford and Daryl (Butch) Simard of Rumford; six sisters, Irene Richard of Mexico, Lorraine Barre of Rumford, Connie Jacques of Arizona, Brandy Burgess of Texas, Sylvia Simard of Arizona, Theresa Webber of Florida.

She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Becky Marie; her parents; and a sister, Jeannette Cote.
