The work of remodeling the Lewiston Cash Market is nearing completion. A modern refrigerating system has been installed which will be one of the finest in Lewiston and Auburn and everything about the store will be sanitary and up to date.

50 years ago, 1966
Radio Corporation of America wants a short strip of land owned by the City of Lewiston included in the property that it will purchase from Lewiston Development Corporation, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen was informed Thursday night. RCA is tentatively scheduled to buy the Lisbon Road property, which includes the former Raytheon Company plant.

25 years ago, 1991
For years in central Maine, chess was an endgame — a decisive checkmate. But a computer game called “Battle Chess,” as well as the reawakening of some old chess buffs who now teach school locally, the pawns are on the move again, the knights ride, and chess is king among many students. A group of six students who met at Sabattus Elementary School last spring, burgeoned to 51 from both Sabattus and Litchfield who jousted in a tournament this winter. Lewiston Junior High School experienced its fourth revival in 18 years, gaining 30 diehards who play at least weekly. Award-winning Monmouth, which started with a few hard-core players six years ago, now has a feeder program, training students at all levels, from elementary to high school.
