Catholic school to hold open house

BRUNSWICK — St. John’s Catholic School will host its annual open house on Sunday, Jan. 31, for prospective pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade students and their families.

To kick off the celebration of National Catholic Schools Week, an opening Mass will be held at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, with a Family Blessing to follow.

The open house and tours will run from 12:30 to 2 p.m.

Families and students are invited to explore the campus and meet the faculty and staff and ask questions about the school, curriculum, programs, activities and athletics, as well as the application process.

Parent volunteers and student ambassadors will lead tours and provide the opportunity to meet other families. The community is welcome to attend.

Lenten offering to go to ‘Imagine No Malaria’

AUBURN — The Auburn United Methodist Church has made the decision that this year’s Lenten offering will go to “Imagine No Malaria.” The worldwide goal is to eradicate malaria this year.

Donations can be dropped off at the church, or mailed to the UMC at 439 Park Ave., Auburn, ME 04210.

The High Street Food Pantry has an ongoing need for the following items: peanut butter, canned vegetables, soup, canned pasta, canned meats, canned fruit, dry cereal, baking items, soup, crackers and toilet paper.

Community barbecue supper at church

SUMNER — A community winter barbecue supper will be held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Congregational Church of East Sumner.

It will include hot dogs, burgers, chicken, salads, dessert, coffee and punch, as well as a raffle of baked goods and household items.

Proceeds will benefit the outreach mission of the church. Donations will be accepted for the meal.
