ALTON – Hirundo Wildlife Refuge will hold its annual Winter Family Day starting at 10 a.m. On Feb. 13.
The Winter Family Day offers a great line-up of programs and activities for all ages and abilities, including the foillowing:
Ultimate Dogsledding Experience – Alexander Therriault with his two teams will take you for a memorable ride
Bucky Owen will introduce you to the amazing ways of how animals cope with the cold. Your skill of observation is put to the test when “Searching for Signs of Animals” during the guided trail walk.
This year’s Winter Games includes a cross-country ski race for entry levels adult, junior and child, curling (weather dependent) or Snowshoe Biathlon.
Everyone is invited to participate in the animal snow sculpture competition to gain local fame.
Finally if you prefer to be on your own, check out our Self-guided activities: snow shoeing, curling for fun, soap bubbles, winter scavenger hunt and more.
Tired? Take a break by the campfire; warm up with hot chocolate. Better yet, plan to spend the day. Pack a lunch and enjoy it next to the fireplace inside the Parker Reed shelter or buy grilled hot dogs and donuts. The hot chocolate will be freeagain this year.
