Dr. G. M. Twitchell addressed the Lewiston and Auburn Gardener’s union, last evening, when that organization met at the rooms of the Lewiston Chamber of Commerce. He discussed the effect of various fertilizers and also the work of children in gardening, under the management of Monmouth Grange. Plans for the spring and fall exhibitions and for the children’s gardens, were talked over. George Horne presided.

Lewiston taxicab company operator Israel Winner, whose cars were tied up for a long time as the result of a train-motor vehicle accident in Auburn, said Friday night it’s time a third bridge was built over the Androscoggin River. A third bridge upriver from the North Bridge could be used by vehicles which often become bogged down in traffic jams in downtown Auburn, he said. Winner also declared that a bridge could be used to good advantage between Minot Avenue and South Main Street to eliminate the need for cars to pass through the Court Street area, which was plugged during the traffic jam Friday afternoon. “Something should be done, it’s awful,” he reported. “It’d tough getting drivers for the taxicabs, too, Winner declared.

A community-action agency plans to transform a vacant Little Canada building into eight new units of subsidized housing. “We’re in the process of acquiring 130 Oxford Street” from First Federal Savings Bank, said Dennis Lajoie, housing developer with Community Concepts. The building could be ready to be occupied within four months, assuming successful completion of the sale, he said.
