ELLSWORTH-PORTLAND — Nonprofit and public organizations seeking funding for projects that draw on the strengths of the community and foster collaboration are encouraged to apply to the Androscoggin County Fund, part of the Maine Community Foundation’s Community Building Grant Program.

A volunteer committee of Androscoggin County residents and business leaders reviews grants and makes recommendations for funding.

The deadline for applying is Monday, Feb. 15. Application and guidelines are available at www.mainecf.org.

In 2015, the committee awarded nearly $40,000 in grants to seven nonprofits. They included:

• $8,045 to Rural Community Action Ministry, Leeds, to support Our Hunger Prevention project;

• $10,000 to John F. Murphy Homes Inc., Auburn, for the Whiting Farm store greenhouse project to create a working exhibit of sustainable growing methods;

• $6,500 to Tree Street Youth, Lewiston, to support implementation of the new Values Education for at-risk elementary and teenage youth;

• $6,722 to College for ME-Androscoggin, Lewiston, to build the organization’s fiscal capacity.
