UPDATED NOON: LEWISTON — The National Weather Service declared a winter weather advisory for Androscoggin County at 6 a.m. Monday that is expected to last until noon Tuesday.
The NWS says that means 5 to 8 inches of snow could cause travel difficulties due to snow-covered roads and limited visibility from blowing snow. North winds are expected at 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.
Temperatures are forecast to range from 12 to 23 degrees.
The winter weather advisory for Franklin and Oxford counties isn’t to start until noon Monday with basically the same conditions. Although some forecasters expect snowfall accumulations to taper off inland.
The snow will move out during the afternoon hours Tuesday but clouds will be sticking around, according to WGME meteorologist Amanda Jellig. More sunshine is expected Wednesday when temperatures will be in the low 30s, according to the forecast. Much colder air is expected to move in Friday and for the weekend ahead.
