The Old Town City Council last week approved $30,000 to assist in seeking a potential grant for facade improvements to the downtown.
The money would be matching funds for funding of up to $150,000 for improvements, which could spruce up some of the numerous eyesores in downtown Old Town. The money, if approved, would come from the state’s Community Development Block Grant program. The local funds are coming from an Old Town LLC account.
The facade improvements would be part of the city’s downtown revitalization strategy. Orono took similar steps a couple years ago, with several businesses getting much-needed facelifts.
