BETHEL – West Parish Congregational Church UCC will host ministers from the Grace Street Ministry during its potluck supper at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13.

The Rev. Robert Ross and the Rev. Jeff Logan share ministry on the streets of Portland with the homeless. Grace Street Ministry is an outreach ministry to the homeless and marginalized in downtown Portland, offering support through presence, prayer and advocacy. It has been around for 20 years.

They describe the ministry as one of presence, compassion and advocacy. Ross said the situation in Portland is like “a third world country right here in our backyard.”

Logan will discuss his work at the potluck and will accept donations to the mission during his visit. Monetary donations and gift cards to coffee shops and shopping centers are useful.

Ross said a $5 gift card to a coffee shop lets a homeless person inside to warm up with a hot beverage. He added that he can purchase boots with shopping center gift cards.

Other specific items needed are sleeping bags, baby wipes and diapers of all sizes, winter coats, heavy socks and gloves.

Those attending should bring a dish to share.
