CHESTERVILLE — Selectmen and the Budget Committee held a lengthy budget session Thursday night, with public works receiving the most attention.

Total payroll for the 2016 fiscal year was proposed at $110,275. The payroll includes the road foreman, another full-time employee, and a part-time employee.

It was agreed that $125,000 will be spent for paving roads. Road maintenance was set at $72,700, and $25,000 will be put into equipment reserve.

Building maintenance was set at $8,000. The total road budget was calculated at $429,811.04, compared to $334,522.37 last year.

Selectmen pointed out that revenues, including monies from the Local Road Assistance Program not figured into the budget, would offset some of the road budget increase.

In the administrative budget, selectmen and the Budget Committee agreed to budget 24 hours per week for the town treasurer, and 36 hours per week for the tax collector. Total administrative costs are $167,743, compared to $169,499.77 for last year.

Last year, the fire department had a budget of $64,373.84. This year, the selectmen and budget committee set the budget at $65,448.39.

For the transfer station, the 2016 proposal is for $100,000.11, as opposed to the 2015 total of $96,174.80. Other figures include $4,500 for streetlights ($4,371.93 in 2015), and $14,533 for ambulance service ($14,401 in 2015).

Selectmen will finalize the town warrant articles at next Thursday’s meeting.
