DAR members to hear speaker

FARMINGTON — Colonial Daughters Chapter, DAR, will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 23, at the Fairbanks Union Church.

The meeting will start at 1 p.m. and will include a visit by State DAR Speaker Kitty Chadbourne of the Elizabeth Wadsworth Chapter, Portland. Chadbourne, a contributing author to “Scarborough at 350,” will speak on “The King Family of Scarborough” and their impact, not only on Maine, but also the young nation during the Federal Period.

Highlighted will be Rufus King, signer/drafter of the Constitution and former aide to Gen. Washington; Cyrus King, congressman from Saco; and William King, first governor of Maine and founder of Kingfield.

Refreshments will follow. The public is welcome.

Poetry group to meet

RUMFORD — The Rumford Public Library Friends 4th Thursday Poetry Group will be starting the 2016 season from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25.

Participants may bring their own poetry or others’ works to share. Light refreshments will be available.

Historic images of Bridgton

BRIDGTON — Bridgton Historical Society will present a program of historic images of Bridgton at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, in the museum, 5 Gibbs Ave.

Executive Director Ned Allen will show slides of photographs from the Society’s collections, as well as providing an introduction to several on-line sources of historical images and information about the town.

The society is working toward uploading the collection of circa 1938 property tax records to the Maine Memory Network, which is part of the Maine historical Society.

He will also show the audience how to access the National Register of Historic Places database, as well as the state’s CARMA database of historic properties, which was developed jointly by the Maine Department of Transportation and the Maine Historic Preservation Commission.

Admission is $5, $4 for Bridgton Historical Society members.
