WILTON — A local man was arrested Saturday and accused of attempting to strangle his wife last year, Wilton police Chief Heidi Wilcox said Monday.
Timothy D. Witham Sr., 29, of Wilton was arrested on a felony charge of aggravated assault, she said.
A conviction is punishable by a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
Witham’s wife was afraid to report the assault in the spring of 2015, before she got out of the relationship and had a protection from abuse order in place, Wilcox said.
Wilcox received information, investigated and interviewed Witham on Saturday before arresting him.
Witham was being held without bail Monday morning at Franklin County jail in Farmington. He was scheduled to appear before a judge later in the day.
Witham was convicted of manslaughter in 2005 after an accident March 16, 2004, in Wilton that killed his passenger, Mary McDonald, 21, of Farmington. Witham, who had a learning permit at the time of the accident, was given a sentence of five years in jail with all but one year suspended and six years probation.
