NORWAY — Nickolas Coffin, 22, of High Street in Paris was indicted Friday, Feb. 12, by an Oxford County grand jury, on three felony crimes in connection with a Dec. 20 assault on a three-year-old child at a residence on Hayden Ave., in Norway.

The residence, Norway police say, is where Coffin and the child’s mother are living. The child’s mother was not home at the time, according to police.

He has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of assault on a child less than six years old – all felonies, according to the indictment.

The assault charges are for intentionally causing bodily injury that created a substantial risk of death against a family or household member (Class B); intentionally causing serious, permanent disfigurement or loss of function (Class A) and the third charge (Class C) is specific to a child under the age of six.

The three-year-old is still hospitalized and, according to police, is stable though seriously injured.

If convicted on all charges, Coffin faces more than 30 years in jail and a $50,000 fine. He has no criminal convictions in Maine, according to state records.
