NEW GLOUCESTER — Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village has announced its special events calendar for the 2016 season.

The Sabbathday Lake Shaker Museum will open for the season on Friday, May 27. Regular museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday from Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 10.

The Maine Festival of American Music will take place from 
Wednesday through Saturday, June 22 to 25. It will celebrate Shaker music in the context of classical chamber performances, a capella singing and American folk music traditions with rare commentaries by the Shakers themselves.

Open Farm Day will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 24. Visitors can explore one of Maine’s oldest farms with special barn tours, wagon rides, craft demonstrations and homemade barbecue dinners.

The Maine Native American Summer Market and Demo is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27. More than 40 Maine Wabanaki artists, in a rare Southern Maine gathering, will present traditional crafts, drumming, dancing and storytelling.

A Harvest Festival will celebrate the bounty of the season with fresh produce, apples, fresh pressed apple cider, baked goods, special barn tours, wagon rides, craft demonstrations and homemade barbecue dinners from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8.?

The Shaker Christmas Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at America’s only active Shaker community. Specialties will include Shaker baked goods, Shaker herbs and a selection of gifts and holiday items.
