1955 – 2016

TOGUS — David L. Atkinson “Aggy,” 60, of Canton, passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 21, at Togus Springs Hospice House with loved ones at his side.

He was born Nov. 5, 1955, in Farmington, to Gelia “Peggy” and Lawrence Atkinson of Livermore.

David attended schools in Livermore and Livermore Falls and graduated from Livermore Falls High School in 1974.

As a child he participated in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.

He entered the U.S. Army in 1975 and served with Co. D, 249th Engineer Combat Bn., in Europe.

David was employed by Pomeroy Hill Nursing Home in Livermore Falls as maintenance supervisor for over 14 years. He also worked construction for BE & K and AV Construction and traveled to various locations.

David enjoyed the great outdoors and could often be seen on his porch feeding and watching the birds. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed sharing stories of his adventures. He was also blessed with a green thumb and enjoyed gardening and planting flowers.

David loved spending time with his family and friends and would help anyone in need. He enjoyed cutting firewood behind his childhood home and walking in the woods. He spent every evening brushing his cat and cherished his dog, Abby, like another daughter.

David leaves behind his longtime companion, Sheila Smith of Canton; his loving children, Chadwick Atkinson and fiancé Gaela Guerra, of San Jose, Calif., Jeremy (Goob) Atkinson and wife Gabriela, of Arlington, Va., Emily (Emma) Atkinson and longtime companion, Kevin Timberlake of Jay; his “stepchildren,” Melanie Littlefield-Hickey of West Gardiner, Chuck Smith and his fiancée, Amy Cote, of Farmingdale; sisters, Beatrice (Beady) Farrington and companion, Gil Barnaby, of Jay, Janice Farrington of Jay, April Pomerleau and husband, Ron, from Jay, and Fort Meyers, Fla.; grandchildren, Jared Duguay, Eric Atkinson, Victoria Littlefield, Macy Hickey, Colby Smith, Drake and Morgan Timberlake; mother-in-law, Edith Stevens; as well as several nieces and nephews; and extended family members.

David was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Peggy Atkinson; his brothers-in-law, Scott Poland, Norwood Farrington and Barry Farrington; his niece, Laurie Farrington; father-in-law, Howard Stevens; and son-in-law, Ron Hickey.
