LEWISTON — The YWCA and the Southern Maine Workers’ Center have announced a special evening of community and movement building.
The YWCA is collaborating with the Health Care is a Human Right campaign of the Southern Maine Workers’ Center to host a potluck and story-share event at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at the YWCA.
Since 2013, the Workers’ Center has been working to build collective power and win a universal, publicly funded healthcare system here in Maine. Much of the work has been based around giving people space to tell their stories about their experiences with the healthcare system.
Stories are one of the most important parts of any movement for social change; they help people understand their own experiences as part of larger systems, and they are how they begin to collectively envision a better world.
The YWCA invites the Lewiston-Auburn community to break bread and share experiences with the U.S. healthcare system. The event will be an opportunity to meet new people, share stories, eat food and take action toward a more just and accessible healthcare system.
Childcare will be provided and families are encouraged to attend. If able, bring food to share. All are welcome regardless of ability to bring a potluck dish.
