TURNER — SAD 52 Adult and Community Education has announced its upcoming courses held at 486 Turner Center Road.

Courses beginning week of March 14

Intro to Chalk Painting Furniture: Participants can get in on the latest do-it-yourself rage and bring a small, portable piece of furniture and give it new life. Individual coaching will be provided.

Tai Chi Workshop: This is a class combining Qigong and Tai Chi that features slow, gentle movements with a focus on breathing and inner stillness and requires no special equipment or clothing. It is appropriate for any age or range of mobility.

Get Organized: Participants will become aware of personal obstacles that stand in the way and learn ways to overcome them. 

Infant Safe Sleep: For parents or caregivers who would like to learn important information on infant safety, the course will discuss promoting safe sleep, prohibiting abusive head trauma and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, normal development and managing infant crying.

Boston Flower Show: This trip includes lunch on the Spirit of Boston two-hour cruise on the harbor.

Driving Dynamics: Drivers can improve defensive driving abilities and awareness. Participants can take part in discussions of collision avoidance techniques, safety issues, driver habits and attitudes, and basic elements that constantly challenge drivers on Maine’s roads. Those who complete the course will receive a three-point credit on their driving record.

Crossbow Hunter: To be eligible to purchase a crossbow hunting license, any person 16 and older must hold a valid license to hunt and submit proof of having successfully completed both archery hunting and crossbow hunting courses or evidence of having previously held adult archery and crossbow hunting licenses.

Courses beginning week of March 21

Poplar Hill Primitives Craft Night Welcome Sign: Participants will hand-paint a flower and the word “Welcome” on a 2-foot piece of barn wood to be hung indoors or out. Experience is not needed, and all materials are included. 

Reusable Easy Crochet Shopping Bags: Crochet with yarn made from plastic grocery bags. Participants shouldn’t throw those bags away — a lot will be needed. Bring a crochet hook, size I or J, and plastic bags.

Notary Public Training: The primary duty of a notary public is to formally witness signatures on paper documents and, in Maine, officiate weddings. Students will prepare to be commissioned by an instructor with more than 40 years of experience.

Resin Earrings: Participants will create high-quality earrings using patterned paper and resin. Earrings can be customized with laser copies of participants’ photos.

Unique Mosaics: Participants will discover the fine art of placing objects on a wooden star or heart, photo frame or mirror. Those attending should bring any objects they wish to incorporate into the project.

Budgeting Basics Workshop: This class will explore the components of building a budget. Topics will include money tracking, goal-setting, challenges, ways to reduce expenses and understanding overall financial situation, useful tools in managing money and creating goals that work for the individual.

Children’s Writers Boot Camp: Students may write literature for children, teens and young adults, learning how to develop story structure, plot ideas, create characters, insert dialogue, explore dramatic endings and more.

Youth Baseball Spring Training: Leavitt baseball has announced the first clinic. Players will get a head start by learning drills in hitting, fielding, throwing and shake off the winter rust, sharpen their skills and learn new techniques for the upcoming season. There’s a session for ages 8 to 10 and another for 11 to 14.
