DERRY, N.H. — Authorities say multiple cars have been involved in accidents along southbound Interstate 93 near Derry after a snow squall caused slippery roads and whiteout conditions.

It was not known exactly how many cars were in accidents along that part of the interstate Friday morning. Derry fire officials said its communications center received 50 calls reporting a pileup. They said callers estimated about 40 cars were involved.

They said cars were affected from the Derry/Londonderry town line through Derry, Windham and into Salem.

Some people were taken to hospitals. Fire officials said all of the injuries were believed to be minor.

The highway was closed at one point; it has since been re-opened.
