This is in response to the article on Bates Mill No. 5 (March 1).
The comments from Lewiston officials, “… this building was born ugly…” and “… an onion …” that smells? Really?
What about all the jobs folks were given back then, making the bricks, and all the folks working in that mill? Lewiston was proud of that mill back in the day.
Benjamin Bates was welcome in Lewiston. We wonder what our ancestor would think about such remarks if he could hear them today.
We Bates who are related to Benjamin Bates are highly offended by those comments.
Let Tom Platz do his thing and make that building beautiful, as he did with the others.
We are eager to see the completion.
Harold and Sandy Bates of Greene
