1954 – 2016

FARMINGTON — George R. Farnum, 61, of East Wilton passed late Friday evening, March 4, at Franklin Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born in Farmington on Oct. 29, 1954, son of Paul and Marcelyn (Martin) Farnum. George received his education in local schools and graduated from Mt. Blue High School in 1976. He was employed by G.H. Bass and Co. in Wilton for 28 years, until the final days of their local operation. George adored the family farm where he was raised. He continued to live on the farm with his brother, Andy, where in earlier years he worked tirelessly; cutting wood, tending chickens and maintaining the apple orchard. He also enjoyed bowling at local bowling alleys and in later years, bowled extensively online.

He was a longtime member of the East Wilton and later Wilton Volunteer Fire Department and the Farmington Lodge BPOE No. 2430. George will be remembered for his long-lasting friendships and his ability to maintain positive relationships with everyone who knew him. He will also be remembered as a conscientious, punctual and reliable worker and friend.

His family wishes to thank all who assisted with George’s care at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington for their compassion and consideration of George and his family and friends as he ventured onto his next journey.

George will be remembered and forever loved by his two brothers, Paul “Andy” Farnum of East Wilton and Marty Farnum and his wife, Sheryl, of Farmington; two nephews, Chet Farnum of Charlotte, N.C., and Pete Farnum of Ocala, Fla.; special friends, Brent and Bertha Smith of Farmington and Sonny Cushman; as well as countless other friends.

He was predeceased by his parents; and a special family friend who helped raise him, Harriet Brackett Mayo.

Condolences and tributes may be shared on his memorial wall at www.wilesrc.com.
