LEWISTON — Gannett Theater at Bates College will stage five performances of the award-winning play “Our Country’s Good.”
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Monday, March 10, 11 and 14; at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 12; and at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 13.
The theater is located at 305 College St.
Written by British playwright Timberlake Wertenbaker and premiered in London in 1988, “Our Country’s Good” came to Broadway in 1991 and received Tony and New York Drama Critics Circle awards. Wertenbaker adapted the play from Australian author Thomas Keneally’s historical novel “The Playmaker.” The story is about how convicts and officers in an Australian penal colony confront issues of redemption and morality. The play contains adult language and themes.
Directing the production is Sally Wood, visiting assistant professor of theater. Wood, who joined the Bates faculty this year, has directed for Portland Stage Company and served as artistic director at the Theater at Monmouth.
