Maine Basketball Club openings

The Maine Basketball Club still has openings for its spring AAU basketball teams.

Maine Basketball Club is a new organization based out of the Lewiston-Auburn area. We offer spring AAU basketball teams for boys and girls grades 3 through 12.

Teams practice once a week and have a skills session once a week. Each team plays two games a weekend. Season goes from March to April. We will also be offering skills clinics for boys and girls grades 1 through 12 on Sunday mornings. These clinics start in March and last for six weeks. Umpiring Clinics Offered

The Central Maine Board of Approved Baseball Umpires (CMBABU) will be holding rules clinic for anyone interested in becoming a certified umpire. The CMBABU covers Sagadahoc, Androscoggin, Oxford, Franklin, and parts of Cumberland counties. Levels of play include high school, junior high school, American Legion, Babe Ruth, Senior Baseball (men’s league), and Cal Ripken.

The clinics will be held at Lewiston High School starting Sunday, March 6, at 5 p.m.  in Room B109. The sessions will be held every two weeks and last two hours. Veteran umpires are encouraged to attend as well to brush up on the rules.

Road race benefit set

On Saturday, March 19, the Children’s Dyslexia Center presents the first-ever Cabin Fever 15K Dash for Dyslexia to benefit the center.

While there are many local 5 and 10K races, the 15K middle distance is rare. Open to only 500 runners, the race follows a challenging course perfect for a Boston Marathon training run. The course begins and ends at Freeport Middle School.

Timing for the race will be handled by Run In A Race LLC by Brian Berkemeyer of Freeport.

The Children’s Dyslexia Center of Portland is one of more than 50 centers in the Northeast. Established in 2001, the Portland center is a free-standing, locally administered program governed by a volunteer Board of Governors.
