ORONO — Members of the Spruce Mountain High School Chapter of the National Honor Society attended the Maine National Honor Society Convention at the University of Maine in Orono on March 10 and 11.
Adviser Jessica Ellingwood and students Alexa Perkins, Liesel Krout and Trevor Doiron met students from all over Maine and listened to motivational keynote speaker Bill Picard at a banquet on March 10.
On March 11 students heard from guest speaker Tony Solis, attended workshops about food insecurity and service opportunities and elected new Maine National Honor Society officers. They helped the convention package a record 30,000 meals to counter food insecurity with End Hunger New England.
Trevor Doiron, president of the Spruce Mountain chapter, was elected president of the state chapter. He succeeds Josh Maillett of Mountain Valley High School. Doiron delivered an inspirational speech on leadership.
The chapter will be fundraising and planning for the 2017 convention in an effort to support next year’s nonprofit and to encourage the growth of scholarship, character, leadership and service in its members.
