DEAR SUN SPOTS and People of the Great State of Maine: Hello! I’m a fourth grade student in North Carolina. In fourth grade, we do state reports and I have chosen your state. I am very excited to learn more about the great state of Maine as I work on my report.

Most of the information that we get for our reports will be from books and websites. We also like to get information from people who live in the state, too. It enhances my learning about the state when I hear from actual people who live in and love their state.

This is why I am writing to you. I was hoping that you would be willing to send me some items to help me learn more about the best things in your state. It could be things like postcards, maps, pictures, souvenirs, general information, this newspaper article, or any other items that could be useful. You can mail items to Mr. McConaughy’s Class, Charlotte Latin School, 9502 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28277. I really appreciate your help. Sincerely, John, Charlotte, NC.

ANSWER: We Mainers do love our state and Sun Spots is happy to put the word out there for you. Readers, let’s help young John out with his project. What do you love about our state?

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Our food pantry has an urgent need for a couple of rugged, reliable people who love to help others. We need a volunteer for Sunday mornings from 7 until 10:30 a.m. and another one for Monday mornings from 7:30 a.m. until approximately noon. These positions require the ability to lift heavy crates of food, 50 pounds or more, and have transportation. If you would like to be a member of a great team of people who help provide food to more than 1,500 men, women and children every month, then please call us. You can reach my assistant Ben Dugus at (207) 229-1466. Thank you Sun Spots, for helping us reach our community. — Pamela Blake, Director Auburn Seventh Day Adventist Food Pantry.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am with the RSU 16 Adult Education program and have a student who is a senior citizen and on a very limited income. His computer is no longer able to be repaired. He has neither a radio nor a TV to give him news, weather, etc. Is there anyone out there who would be able to donate him one so he can stay connected with society? It would have to be in good working order as he has limited funds. My telephone is 345-3113. Thank you. — No Name, Minot.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Regarding the cartoon “Ernie Bock, Jr.,” who is Ernie Boch Jr.? It appears often on TV. Thanks. — A Grateful Reader, Lewiston.

ANSWER: Ernie Boch Jr. appears on a series of 15-second animated public service announcements featuring himself and his family that have appeared on local stations around New England since about 2004. They often contain inspirational, positive messages promoting topics such as family, friendship and imagination. According to the Boston Business Journal, Ernie Boch Jr. is the president and CEO of Boch Enterprises. His father was an auto dealer who also was infamous in the New England area for his own brand of TV commercials, using his boisterous personality to invite people to “come on down” to his auto lots.
