1938 – 2016

LEWISTON — Lucie (Roy) Martel, 77, of Auburn died on Tuesday, March 15, at Central Maine Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Bernard Martel.

She was born on Aug. 24, 1938, in Lewiston, a daughter of the late Laureate and Irene (Brilliant) Roy. She attended St. Louis and Walton schools in Auburn.

Lucie worked at Knapp Shoe for six years, leaving to become a devoted housewife and mother. She was a member of the Iris Club and the National Gardeners Club. She took many senior trips and was an avid bingo player.

In her early years, she loved sewing, crafts and gardening. Her green thumb was a passion she cultivated her entire life, rivaling even her love of jigsaw puzzles, which she could often be found making in the sunny warmth of her little glass greenhouse. In the winter, her days were filled with reading, colorful beading, jewelry making, complex jigsaw puzzles and socializing with her many friends and family. Her greatest passion, however, was her husband of 53 years, Bernard.

Lucie is survived by her children, Doris Green and her husband, Troy, of Turner, Elaine Martel of Auburn, Gene Quimby and her husband, Rick, of Turner, Chet Martel of Livermore and Fern Lake and her husband, William, of Auburn. She also leaves her 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; her siblings, Armand Roy of Auburn and Omer Roy of Scarborough; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was also the sister of the late Rita Deschamps and Roger Roy.
