SOUTH PORTLAND — Members of the Mt. Blue Chapter of the student organization Future Business Leaders of America recently participated in the annual state leadership conference.
More than 300 business students from the 11 chapters throughout the state spent two days participating in workshops and academic competitions. They also spoke with college representatives, attended presentations from professional business leaders from around the state and attended an evening performance by hypnotist Bruce James.
Members from the Mt. Blue chapter won 17 medals for their results in testing, FBLA promotional creations, chapter community service project, management techniques, hospitality procedures, computer help desk, spreadsheet applications, chapter scrapbook, treasurer’s financial report, job application and interview.
Students raised $1,950 to cover registration, rooms and meals. The School District covered the cost of transportation.
The chapter raised and donated $100 for Sarah’s House of Maine in Bangor. This is a home for families to stay for free while a family member is treated for cancer at Eastern Maine Medical Center.
Chapter adviser Priscilla Conner was nominated by chapter president Emily Dellarma as Maine State Chapter adviser of the year. Conner was selected to receive this award and was presented with a personal plaque in recognition of her commitment, leadership, guidance and the positive attitude she has brought to her classroom for 50 years.
