AUGUSTA — The 2015 Spirit of America Foundation will honor volunteerism in Maine at 1 p.m. Friday, April 15, at the Hall of Flags. 

Local award recipients include:

Bowdoinham: Theresa Turgeon is a key volunteer for the Advisory Committee on Aging and Shipmates Senior Club.

Durham: Patricia Provost has helped the Eureka Committee, seniors, military families and the local school.

Fayette: Marty Maxwell has served the Fayette Fire Department for more than 20 years, many of them as fire chief. Patrick Wheeler has been the town’s road foreman for years, and has helped residents in other capacities.

Greene: Pat Rose has done much to help the library, the library Building Committee and other local causes.

Leeds: Jane Wheeler is very involved in her church, visits nursing homes and has assisted many local residents.

Lewiston: YWCA of Central Maine spearheaded local fire disaster recovery efforts and offers many activities.

Lisbon: Faye Brown spearheaded an effort to beautify the town and helped create more than 40 new garden spots.

Livermore Falls: Sarah Delaney has done much work throughout Livermore Falls on parks, among other things.

Minot: Helen Clifford has served on several town committees and has helped her church, grange and other causes.

Monmouth: Cottrell-Taylor Foundation annually organizes a Christmas meal for families in need and gives them gifts.

Mount Vernon: Betty White organized the Mt. Vernon Food Bank and oversaw its operations for years.

New Portland: Marilyn Gorman, town historian, has served on the Comprehensive Planning Committee, among others.

Poland: Girl Scout Troop 1141 does many activities to help its members develop and aid its community.

Readfield: Duck Pond Wildlife Care Center has cared for animals and returned them to the wild for 50 years. Norma Grover has served as selectwoman, school board member, scout leader and helped other causes. Sean Harper has organized and sustained the Mileage Club at Readfield Elementary School.

Rome: Keith Alexander supported his son’s fundraising effort for a new wheelchair-accessible playground. Nicholas Alexander led a fundraising drive for a Pine Tree Camp wheelchair-accessible playground. Douglas Stratton has helped the Rome Recreation Committee through his efforts and contributions.

Sabattus: Sabattus EMS first responders has been faithfully responding to emergencies since its inception.

Starks: Starks Enrichment and Educational Society contributes to the health and well-being of area residents.

Topsham: Donald Russell served as selectman for 49 years, many as chairman.

Turner: Mary Richardson for years has run the Secret Santa program so underprivileged children receive Christmas gifts.

Wales: Robert Michaud has helped his church, the local recreation club and the Boy Scouts.

Wayne: Gloria and Lincoln Ladd donate time and money to help local causes, including the Ladd Recreation Center.

Wilton: Patti Foss saved the lives of a couple suffering from carbon monoxide while delivering newspapers. Republican state Rep. Tom Saviello served as selectman and has helped a variety of charitable causes over the years.

Winthrop: Joseph Young served many years as police chief, headed ambulance services and helped many causes.
