Police awarded grant to enforce speed limits

FARMINGTON — The Police Department has received a grant from the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety to put additional officers on the roadways to enforce speed limits and reduce speed-related crashes.

The $3,600 grant will run from mid-April to mid-September.

The Police Department responds to approximately 375 to 450 motor vehicle crashes per year, according to a department news release. A majority of these crashes occur in high-traffic areas.

Speed was a primary factor in 80 of the crashes.

Over the past two years, about 120 people received injuries from these motor vehicle crashes, the release states.
