TURNER — SAD 52 Adult & Community Education, 486 Turner Center Road, has announced upcoming May enrichment classes.
Japanese Shibori Silk Scarves: Monday, May 2. Those attending can create designs using a resist method on silk, wrap scarves around a PVC pipe, add color using various dyes and then paint directly on the scarves. Attendees can create a handmade craft for Mother’s Day.
Sub Training: Tuesday, May 3. Attendees can learn about school expectations, teachers’ lesson plans and classroom management. This course is one step in the substitute teacher application process for the district. A high school diploma is required, and a college degree is preferred.
Divination Techniques: Tuesday, May 3. Attendees can use cards, stones, runes, crystals and other tools to receive information from the spirit world.
Beef, Pork & Other Tasty Critters: Saturday, May 7. Those attending can practice smoking beef, roasts and short ribs, burgers and brisket. They can explore the options available for the many cuts of beef as well as variations on pork. Attendees can discover the 3-2-1 method of smoking southern-style spare ribs. Cornbread and coleslaw will be made to serve with the ribs.
Alcohol Ink Class: Tuesday, May 10. Attendees can get creative with bright, beautiful vibrant alcohol inks. They can make something quirky, unexpected and surprising. A new technique will be presented in this experimental workshop.
Collage Glass Charm: Wednesday, May 11. Attendees can create their own meaningful miniature collages using paper, photos and text. Techniques include color washing, glazing and applying pigment powders. After completing a two-sided collage, attendees can place it between glass and finish it off with a unique metal frame. They can use this technique to create ornaments, embellishments and jewelry design.
Riverdance Bus Trip: Saturday, May 14. A matinee at the Wang Theater in Boston.
