BATH — The Chocolate Church Arts Center will commemorate Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary in May by producing “King Lear” and presenting a series informational events, including a discussion led by Shakespearean scholar and author Dr. Steve Urkowitz.
Performances of “King Lear,” presented in partnership with Shakespeare on the Kennebec, will be at 7 p.m. on May 6, 7 and 13, and at 2 p.m. on May 8, and 14, on the CCAC main stage, 804 Washington St., Bath. Tickets are $12 advance, $15 at the door.
Urkowitz, author of “Shakespeare’s Revision of King Lear” (published by Princeton Press), will discuss how and why theatrical trends have returned to the Folio Edition that reveal Shakespeare’s brilliant composing process. The discussion will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 4, at the Patten Free Library, 33 Summer St., Bath.
On Wednesday, May 11, the cast of CCAC’s “King Lear” will answer questions and perform a few scenes from the play, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Patten Free Libary.
