AUBURN — Auburn City Council workshop and regular meeting in the City Council Chamber on the second floor of Auburn Hall. The workshop meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. Topics include a public review of budget meetings and a closed-door executive session on labor negotiations. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and includes a public hearing on the proposed 2016-17 budget.

LEWISTON — Lewiston Planning Board meeting, 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers on the bottom floor of City Hall. 

LEWISTON — Lewiston School Committee, regular meeting, 6:45 p.m., Dingley Building. On agenda: presentation of “Star Academy,” a new program to help  eighth-graders who are behind catch up and graduate from high school on time.

TUESDAY, April 26

AUBURN —  Auburn City Council special workshop meeting at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chamber on the second floor of Auburn Hall. The agenda includes a review of a proposed budget and organizational structure for a Public Safety Department.

LEWISTON — Author talk by Colby College Anthropology professor Catherine Besteman about her book: “Making Refuge: Somali Bantu Refugees and Lewiston, Maine,” 6:30 p.m., Lewiston Public Library. Program will include conversation about Besteman’s work and the local Somali Bantu community with Muhidin Libah and Rilwan Osman.

THURSDAY, April 28

LEWISTON — Lewiston City Council budget workshop special meeting and public hearing in the City Council Chambers on the bottom floor of City Hall. The budget workshop is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. The special meeting and budget hearing — including the proposed school budget — begins at 7 p.m.

FRIDAY, April 29

LEWISTON — “I Am Tree,” Tree Street Youth fundraising event to support programs and highlight youth talent, 5:30-8 p.m., Bates Mill Atrium. Tree Street Youth works to eliminate money barriers by providing space for opportunity and advancement for local youths, 5:30-7 p.m., appetizers from local restaurants, 7-8 p.m., youth performances of song, dance, spoken word and more.
