AUGUSTA — Gov. Paul LePage is considering an 11th-hour deal with Democrats that would allow a bill that would boost solar power in Maine to become law.
The Republican governor said on WVOM-FM Tuesday that he has been working with Democrats to make the bill “more palatable,” but he doubted that a deal could be reached by midnight Tuesday, the deadline for a veto.
Assistant Majority Leader Sara Gideon, a Democrat from Freeport, said she has met with LePage four times and has agreed to LePage’s proposed changes to the bill. She said she is now waiting to see whether LePage will sign off on the deal or veto the bill.
She said she will continue working on getting enough votes to override a veto. The Legislature would vote on Friday.
