1937 – 2016

FARMINGTON — Donald Richard LaPlant, 78, of Wilton passed away Sunday, April 24, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington.

Donald was born May 22, 1937, in East Dixfield, the son of William and Addie LaPlant. During his life, he worked at K&H Foster, Allen’s Garage in North Jay and later spent 22 years at G.H. Bass & Co.

In 1985, he realized his lifetime dream of owning his own business when he purchased Johnny’s Exxon on Main Street in Wilton. The dream was short-lived as multiple health problems forced the sale of his business.

In his retirement, Donald developed a love of woodworking, leaving treasured items with each of his children.

Donald is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marie LaPlant; their six children, Donna Martin and husband, Earl, Cindy Spencer and husband, Doug, Richard LaPlant and wife, Lori, Linda Bureau and husband, Jeff, David LaPlant and wife, Dee, Rodney LaPlant and fiancée, Renee. Donald was very proud of his children and their accomplishments. Donald is also survived by his grandchildren, Brandi and husband, Mark Toothaker, Earl Martin III, DJ Spencer and wife, Melissa, Morgan Spencer, Garrett LaPlant, Johanna LaPlant and companion, Shane Bartlett, Chris Leavitt and wife, Tracy, Sarah Baker and husband, Matt; step-grandchildren, Becky Merrill and husband, Jared, and Adam Gallant; great-grandchildren, Angel, Julia, Autumn, Megan, Audrey, Hannah, Haylee, Austin; borrowed grandchildren, Braelyn, Bailey, Whitney and Kayleigh; and sister-in-law, Arline LaPlant.

Donald was predeceased by his parents; his two brothers, William Jr. and Clayton; and daughter-in-law, Dori Cote LaPlant.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Julie Tracy at Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice, and to a very special longtime friend, Bunny Allen.
