NEW GLOUCESTER — Steamboat Gypsy will play at the Village Coffeehouse of New Gloucester at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 7.
The coffeehouse in located in the First Congregation Church vestry at 19 Gloucester Hill Road.
Craig Hensley and Justin Schlawin began playing together in 2010, united by their interest in old-time music, country and blues. In 2013, Mariah Sewall joined the group and helped fine-tune the group’s vocal harmonies. Recently professional jazz musician Asher Barreras joined the band. He is a multi-instrumentalist who is teaching at a jazz camp this summer and performing with the group as time allows.
The group’s rustic sound includes elements of bluegrass, country, blues and old-time music. It is inspired by present and past musicians including John Hartford, Gillian Welch, Little Feat and Jimmy Cliff. Based in midcoast Maine, Steamboat Gypsy is highly supportive of the local food scene and can regularly be found shaking their bells at farmer’s markets and other events around the state.
Tickets cost $10. FMI: 207-653-4823.
