1926 – 2016

LEWISTON — Evelyn M. Woodhouse, 89, of Old Orchard Beach and formerly of Lisbon Falls passed away Wednesday, April 27, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with her loving children by her side.

She was born in New Haven, Conn., on June 25, 1926, the only child of George and Doris Noel. At an early age, the family moved to Maine and Evelyn grew up in and attended local schools in the Old Orchard Beach area. She was a graduate of Old Orchard Beach High School, Class of 1944. After high school, she attended the Newton-Wellesley School of Nursing where she graduated in 1947 with her nursing degree.

After returning to Maine, on April 24, 1948, she married Oliver Woodhouse and the two started a family together. During that time, Evelyn spent many years as a registered nurse showing care and compassion for her fellow patients until her retirement.

She was a member of the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps for three years as well as a life member and past matron of Pioneer Chapter No. 11 and the Order of the Eastern Star. An ideal day in the life of Evelyn would consist of working on some games and puzzles, crocheting scrubbies, watching TCM movies and listening to Salvation Army music. She also loved spending quality time with her friends and family whenever she could, especially at Red Sox spring training games in Florida.

Evelyn is survived by her four children, Peter Woodhouse of Bath, John Woodhouse and his wife, Diane, of South Plainfield, N.J., Stephen Woodhouse and his wife, Cindy, of Bowdoin, and Dorie Freeman and her husband, Chuck, of Lisbon Falls. She also leaves behind her nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, whom she cared for very much.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Oliver Woodhouse; and a daughter-in-law, Nancy Woodhouse.
