LISBON — The Planning Board is charged with finding out whether there is a need for more commercial development along Route 9, member Don Fellows told the Town Council on Tuesday night.

The first step is a survey, which people can access on the town website or pick up at the public library or the Town Office. Surveys can also be returned to those locations, Fellows said.

So far, 160 people have taken the survey, Fellows said, adding he wants more input from more people.

“The survey ends May 11. Please take it,” he said.

Fellows said the survey assumes there will be commercial activity, but that doesn’t mean that it is decided.

Larry Filmore said he took the survey and was disappointed that three of the questions were heavily slanted.

“If it’s slanted to the way you want it to come out, you’ll never get the right answer,” Filmore said. “The thought is there; (the survey) is the right thing to do, but we did it wrong.”

Dot Fitzgerald told the council she was appalled that the survey was so slanted.

In other business, a public hearing was held on the zoning ordinance, which is intended to keep Lisbon an attractive, well-kept and safe place to live. A focus is on preventing unsafe, unsanitary or nuisance properties, Fellows said.
