HERMON — Franklin County Extension Homemakers recently attended the Maine Extension Homemakers Council spring meeting in Hermon on April 30.
The theme of the meeting was Teddy Bear Picnic in honor of Caroline Mayo, who often made teddy bears to donate to various charities.
A memorial remembrance service was given by Barbara Hathaway of Wilton, a United Methodist certified lay minister and past president.
Hathaway was assisted by past president Pam DuPont.
Red roses, wrapped in lace doilies, were passed out in remembrance of each member’s passing, including eight members from Franklin County.
President Temm reported the programs offered during 2015, which include:
• 13 education programs;
• 25 nutrition and health;
• 19 gardening and environmental;
• eight personal growth and family relationships; and
• 60 cultural and creative arts programs.
A total of 28,781 hours were volunteered with donations totaling $24,260.
The geographic area of study, Maine, was presented by President Marie Temm and Sharon Ashley. The Medical Emergencies Program was assisted by M. Bailey. “Genealogy Using DNA” was presented by Bea LaPlante, extension homemaker from Somerset County, and assisted by Debbie Killam, University of Maine Cooperative Extension adviser.
The day concluded with the drawing of raffles and door prizes.
The fall meeting will be hosted by the Cumberland Extension Homemakers in Portland from Oct. 21 to 22.
