Alas, a developer is purchasing several lots on Lisbon Street, which means the Lewiston “rattle” sculpture must be moved. The sculpture was designed to be portable, so moving it is not the problem; however, where it should be displayed next is the question.
The artwork has proven popular with residents and visitors, according to Josh Vink, executive director of L/A Arts. So, I would think it would be wonderful for the Lewiston “rattle” to be erected on the lawn of the Blaine House in Augusta, as it would be a daily reminder of our present governor, Paul LePage. How appropriate, as the governor is from Lewiston and it could be viewed by many people, due to the excellent location.
When people view artwork, it exudes various opinions. People will ask what that sculpture represents. They can be told it is a symbol of what the governor has done for the people of the state of Maine. When they ask what exactly has he done, give them that offshore look and change the subject.
