Kids’ run, 5K planned

HEBRON — The Hebron Hawk Trail Kids’ Fun Run and 5K will be at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 15, at the Hebron Station School.

Families may walk or run through the wooded trails, take part in the cookie bake-off and take a chance on winning one of the many raffle prizes.

The one-mile kids’ fun run begins at 10 a.m. and will be followed by the 5K. All levels of walkers and runners are welcome. Registration is from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on race day at Hebron Station School.

Preregistration is available, and all preregistered runners will be provided with five extra raffle tickets.

School seeks vendors for sale

GRAY — The Fiddlehead School of Arts and Sciences will hold its second annual Giant Tag Sale to benefit the school from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 22, at 25 Shaker Road.

Anyone wishing to rent a space to sell their own goods is required to register in advance and pay for their space at the time of registration. Community members can rent a space for $30. Spaces are 8½- by 15-feet. Vendors may bring their own table; tables will not be provided. 

The rain date is Sunday, June 5.

Loon populations topic of training

ORONO — University of Maine Cooperative Extension will offer training sessions to those interested in identifying and recording seasonal changes in their communities in support of understanding Maine’s changing climate.

Trainings with an emphasis on loon populations will be offered in partnership with Maine Audubon locally:

Bridgton: 4 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 23, at Lakes Environmental Association.

Auburn: 4 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, at Central Maine Community College, hosted by Stanton Bird Club.

All trainings are free, and registration is required.

Maine, native people ally workshop 

PARIS — Maine Wabanaki REACH will present a free ally workshop, Maine and Native People: Understanding Our Relationship, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 4.

This workshop has been well-received across the state with close to 400 Mainers participating. Maine and Wabanaki people are at a historical juncture in their long relationship. The ally workshop is an opportunity for non-native people to reflect on the shared history and future with native people.

The workshop includes a brief history of U.S. government relationships with native people, awareness of white privilege and ally responsibilities. Space is limited and registration is required.

Maine Music hires new director

LEWISTON — The Maine Music Society has announced the addition of Dr. Alan Carr to its board of directors.

Carr directs the applied music program and manages the Dean of Faculty concert series at Bates College.

Previously, he was on the music faculty at Concordia University Wisconsin. He has performed with the Alabama, Baltimore, Dubuque and Hartford symphony orchestras, the American Brass Quintet, the Isthmus Brass Ensemble, the King’s Brass and Ensemble ACJW of Carnegie Hall.
