1938 – 2016

FARMINGTON — Gerald Brubaker, 78, of Farmington passed away peacefully at his home on May 5 with his wife by his side.

He was born May 2, 1938 in Ashland, OH, the son of Ralph and Anna Brubaker. He attended grammar school and high school in Ashland, graduating in 1956. He graduated from the Institute of Aviation at the University of Illinois in 1967, receiving his A&P licenses and flight ratings. He also attended Ohio State University and received an AA degree from the College of San Mateo in San Mateo, Calif.

Bru’s military career was with the Ohio Air National Guard and the U.S. Air Force from 1958 to 1964 where he served as a mechanic on F-84F, T-33 and C-47 aircraft. In 1967, he joined United Air Lines as an A&P Mechanic and in 1969 he was transferred by United into the pilot ranks where he then worked as a Second Officer on B-737 and B-727 aircraft. He held ratings for Flight Engineer, Commercial Single and Multi Engine Land and Sea, Glider, Instruments, and A&P Mechanic.

Bru enjoyed seaplane flying, fishing, hunting, photography, tennis, skiing and anything that had to do with airplanes. He was a member of the Northern Lights Snowmobile Club in Insustry, the Farmington Lions Club and the Pine Tree Boating Club.

Bru is survived by his wife, Theresa Marquis Brubaker of Farmington who he married on Jan. 1, 2016; his brother, Donald Brubaker and wife, Sheerie, of Columbus, OH; cousin, Pete Skaates from Littleton, Colo.; nieces, Lisa Esteve and husband, Tomas, and their children, Sofia, Agustin, Daniel and Carlos from Brownsville, Tex., Molly Capuano and husband, Mike, and their children, Carter, Conner and Chloe of Columbus, OH; and two cats, Dukey and Nigella.
