LPD offering free,
outdoor movie nights;
you pick the movies
LEWISTON — The Lewiston Police Department will offer six free, outdoor movie nights around the city over over the course of the summer. The program is part of “an innovative approach to community policing,” according to a news release from the department.
The department will poll the public for its choice of movies through the LPD’s Facebook page, and will announce the results when the poll is over.
By moving the showings around the city, the department hopes to build a stronger sense of community and by bringing people to various locations throughout the city to highlight the growth that is taking place here in Lewiston.
The intent is also to provide a conduit for local service providers and businesses to develop new relationships with community members, as well as provide an alternative to youth and families to further reduce crime in the community
Movies will be be shown at 8:30 p.m., on Wednesdays, at the following locations: June 22 –Marcotte Park; June 29 – Holy Family field; July 13 – South Lewiston ballpark; July 27 –Pettingill School park; Aug. 10 – Sunny Side Park; and Aug. 24–Payne-Simard Park.
Food vendors, service providers, business networking, and youth programming by the Lewiston Recreation Department will be available before the 8:30 p.m.showing for each of the movies.
In the case of poor weather, the event will be moved to the Gendron Franco-American Heritage Center, 46 Cedar St.
TD Bank is sponsoring the entire event, making it possible to offer the movies for free, according to the LPD.
The Lewiston Police Athletic League (P.A.L), and the Lewiston Recreation Department will also be involved in the project.
