1926 – 2016
LEWISTON — Olga E. Edwards, 89, died early Monday, May 16, after a heart attack Sunday night, attended by several family members.
She was born on Aug. 7, 1926, in Woodstock, and lived her entire life in Maine. She was the youngest of six children of Antti and Anna Pulkkinen who emigrated from Finland in 1914.
In 1945, Olga married Richard Edwards. She was a housewife and mother, but she also worked at shoe shops and at Auburn Nursing Home doing laundry and as a care companion to elderly ladies.
Some of Olga’s favorite things to do were going blueberrying, traditionally on her birthday, and hearing the first spring peepers and summer whippoorwills. She kept her mind active with puzzles, word searches, etc., as well as loving her family.
Surviving her are her five children, Nancy Pringle and husband, Ralph, of Buckfield, John Edwards of Auburn, James Edwards and his wife, Mary Helen of Naylor, Ga., Patricia Gimmi of Elizabethtown, Pa., Sandra Trundy and her husband, Philip, of Buckfield; her sister-in-law, Iris Pulkkinen; three nieces; two nephews; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; as well as extended family in Finland.
She was predeceased by her parents, five older brothers and sisters, Lylli, Hilja, Gertrude, Eino, and Wilho; her husband, Richard; and her son, David.
