POLAND — Selectmen on Tuesday heard a report from Community and Economic Development Committee Chairman Cyndi Robbins detailing its accomplishments and future projects.

Goals for the coming year include:

• Developing landscaping options for new town signs;

• Implementing online GIS mapping of utilities, roads and zoning; and

• Developing a welcome kit for new businesses and residents.

Other items up for discussion, according to Robbins, are possibly hiring an economic development consultant and a revolving loan program.

Robbins also noted the committee is still looking for a few more members.

Selectmen also accepted for review proposed revisions to the committee bylaws.

In his report, Town Manager Bradley Plante said the combined effect of the proposed Regional School Unit 16 budget and the municipal budget will result in a tax rate of about $14.45 per $1,000 in property value. It’s a 25 cent increase in the rate.

Selectmen signed the warrant for RSU 16 budget validation referendum June 14.

The school district meeting to act on the 20.8 million budget will take place at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 23, at Poland Regional High School auditorium.

Executive Assistant Nikki Pratt said the Town Office will close at 5 p.m. Monday, May 23, so office personnel can set up for the meeting at the high school.

• Appointed Martha Littlefield to the Poland Scholarship Committee;

• Approved a request from the Range Pond Association to hold a boat parade on Upper and Middle Range ponds on July 3; and

• Signed an agreement with We Compost-It to allow separate collection of refuse suitable for composting at several sites about town.

Plante reminded the board that the official grand opening of the town’s Senior Center is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at the Town Hall, with refreshments and open house to follow.
