100 years ago, 1916
The first annual concert and ball of the Lewiston Musicians’ Association, Thursday evening, was an unqualified success, in point of large attendance, excellent music and the evident enjoyment of all present. It is a welcome and worthy addition in Lewiston’s annual musical events. City hall was crowded to the doors and to the back or the gallery: even the stage was almost crowded with the one hundred or so musicians representing the three bands of Lewiston — the Brigade, Dominican and Hobbs’ American Band

50 years ago, 1966
The second annual Fork Lift Truck Rodeo sponsored by the Down East Chapter of the International Materials Management Association will be held tomorrow noon at the Auburn-Lewiston municipal airport. Fork lift truck operators from Maine and New Hampshire will take part in the event, which is open to all lift lift operators. The competition will consist of testing the operators’ abilities on five different courses.

25 years ago, 1991
After six months of corresponding, Susan Gerlek’s eighth-graders at Sugg Middle School, Lisbon, will get to meet their prolific Operation Desert Storm pen pal face to face next week when Technical Sgt. Sean R. Bruce arrives for a 12-day visit. Bruce, accompanied by his wife, Susie, will arrive Thursday at the Portland Jetport after a flight from Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Mont., where he is stationed, Gerlek said Friday. The couple are traveling to Lisbon at their own expense, according to Gerlek.
