TURNER — Mary (Stought) Bruno, 80, wife of the late Francis “Frank” Bruno, formerly of Auburn, passed away Friday, May 20, in the comfort of home.

Mary was born in Columbus, Ohio, a daughter of the late Ruth (Russell) and Carl Stought. She grew up in Ohio and proved to be an intelligent young woman who excelled in school. Mary moved to Long Island, N.Y., after marrying Frank, the love of her life. They eventually settled in Island Park, N.Y., where the couple raised their family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and good friend.

Her positive and cheerful attitude were instrumental to her success in selling Avon. Mary’s natural ability to connect with people contributed to her becoming an Avon district sales manager. Retirement brought Mary and Frank to Maine, where Mary continued her passion for cooking, crocheting and writing poetry. She especially loved sharing her healthy recipes.

She is survived by her son, Nicholas Bruno and his wife of Turner; daughters, Nancy Grant and her husband of Melbourne, Australia, and Tina Smith and her husband of Long Island, N.Y.; grandchildren, Francis B. Bruno of Turner and Patrick Grant and Liam Grant of Melbourne, Australia; brother, Walter “Joe” Rauck of New Plymouth, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Tina Cusano of Miramar, Fla., Anne Occhipinti and husband of Commack, N.Y., and Beverly Stought of Hilliard, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Francis Bruno; brother, Robert Stought; and sister, Nancy Barnes.

Mom will be greatly missed by many.

Again, the family wishes to thank Dr. Gregory Thibodeau and the staff at Central Maine Medical Center’s Family Practice Residency Program for their attentive and compassionate care of Mary, which enabled her to comfortably age at home. Dr. Thibodeau routinely exemplified the values of family medicine by caring for the entire family from his heart.
