LEWISTON — The Lewiston Farmers’ Market at Bates Mill No. 5 will open for the season at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 29, at the municipal parking lot on the corner of Lincoln and Main streets.

Following the opening, the market will be open every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. through mid-October.

Family-friendly activities on opening day include live music, children’s activities and a Memorial Day raffle filled with market goodies. Tables and chairs will be available for visitors to sit, and a restroom will be available.

Visitors can expect more than 20 new and returning vendors selling farm-fresh vegetables, seasonal fruit, grass-fed beef, chicken, lamb, pork, rabbit, artisan cheese and dairy, homemade baked goods, gluten-free products, maple products, fresh-cut flowers, perennial plants, handcrafted soap and local arts and crafts.

The market will accept cash, credit and debit, as well as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program funds, formerly known as food stamps, and Women, Infants and Children vouchers.

Offered is the Market Rewards program, where loyal customers receive a gift certificate after five visits to the market. Also offered is the Seniors’ Day program, where those 62 and older receive a gift certificate to the market every first Sunday of the month.

The market is joining markets across the state in offering the new Maine Harvest Bucks program, which provides SNAP/electronic benefit transfer users with bonus fresh fruits and vegetables.
