‘Project Runway’ spoof
features 24 ‘designers”

BRUNSWICK — The 6th annual “Mid-coast Altered-Couture Contest” will be held on Thursday, June 9, at the Fort Andross Event Center (adjacent to Cabot Mill Antiques) 14 Maine St.

Proceeds from the  “Project Runway” spoof will go to The Lewiston /Auburn Maine Folque Co-op Young Fiddlers Ensemble.  The group will give a performance during the program.

The contest features 24 designers of all ages who will present a garment they design individually or as a team, on the theme “Color Couture.” Each designer or designing team chose one color with any number of related hues for their piece, or chose to create a multi-hued rainbow piece.

Designers range from those who have never sewn  to seamstresses and artists. They are encouraged to use recycled materials and sources and to think outside the box. Designers also select a song that supports their design and personality.  When their song begins to play, they become the artist, designer and star as they strut and walk the runway.

Contestants are judged by a five-member panel of locals:  Terry Grasse, veteran-turned-artist, Deirdre Nice, executive and artistic director of St. Lawrence Arts in Portland, Gary Lawless of Gulf of Maine books, Roben Booker, owner and designer of Botanical Soaps of Maine and Mark Fish, owner of Rainbow Upholstery. Judges will come dressed in the current year’s theme as well.

The contest runs from 6 to 8 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Tickets are $12.50 and can be purchased in advance at Frontier Café, located in the Fort Andross Building or online www.explorefrontier.com.
