100 years ago, 1916
The Poland Spring House opened its doors today on one of the finest mornings that ever was and if it is any omen of success then Poland Spring may well congratulate itself on its prospects. Familiar names are found on the register. The oldest frequenter will be delighted and astonished at the changes which present themselves one after another. Briefly stated now they will enter a much enlarged office, presenting a grand and spacious apartment; but the dining room will strike everyone with admiration. The new golf department is a wonder in convenience and perfection of design and as it opens directly on the links, near the first tee and the last hole. It is, in fact, one of the finest golf departments of any hotel in the world.

50 years ago, 1966
A well known Lewiston business establishment is currently making plans for moving and enlarging its facility. George and Nestor Simones, owners of Simones Hot Dog Stand at 98 Chestnut St. announced that the firm which has been at that address for 55 years is changing locations and enlarging its dining facilities. The store which was opened in 1910 and operated by members of ins family since will move to 99 Chestnut Street. The first floor of the brick building at 99 Chestnut St , which has been an apartment house, will he renovated and the restaurant will be doing business at its new site by mid-July Twice as many patrons will be able to be accommodated. Counter space will be doubled. A parking lot will replace the building which has housed the firm for 55 years at its present location.

25 years ago, 1991
Nearly 20 Lewiston businesses and organizations already have joined this year’s Adopt-A-Spot City Beautification Program. Under the program, businesses and organizations adopt a piece of public land, such as a traffic island, rotary, park or median strip, and landscape it by planting trees, flowers and shrubs. The adopters are then responsible for upkeep of the land for one year.
