LITCHFIELD — Some great bluegrass music can be heard at one of the largest family musical events in New England, the Blistered Fingers Bluegrass Festival, set for Wednesday, June 15, through Saturday, June 18, at the Litchfield Fairgrounds, 30 Plains Road.
The festival is named for the host band, Blistered Fingers, a fast-moving award-winning traditional bluegrass band from Central Maine that performs extensively around the northeast and Canada. The first Blistered Fingers Festival was held in 1991.
There is a second festival set for August 24-28.
The gates will open at 8 a.m. on Sunday, June 12, 2016 for early-bird campers. Weekend tickets for each festival will cover four days of music and camping from Wednesday to Saturday and Sunday Morning Gospel sing-along and jam.
Performers will include: The Moron Brothers, from Kentucky, Friday and Saturday; The Little Roy and Lizzy Show, from Georgia, Saturday; The Bluegrass Brothers from Virginia, Thursday and Friday; The Edgar Loudermilk Band from Georgia, Friday; Zink and Company, from Massachusetts, Friday and Saturday; The Banker Family, from Missouri, Friday and Saturday; Trinity River Band from Florida, Wednesday and Thursday; The Misty Mountaineers from Maine, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday; Robinson’s Bluegrass Gospel, Sunday and Blistered Fingers, the host band, Saturday.
The festival also includes a Blistered Fingers Kids’ Academy. Blistered Fingers and the Bluegrass Music Association of Maine have gotten together to create a free, relaxed, informative three-day music program for children for ages 6-18. The focus is how to play and sing bluegrass music. Students will bring their own instruments and will commit to the three-day program.
Tickets available at Gate.
Early-bird camping (Sunday, Monday and Tuesday before festival) $10 per day per camper. Camping is free with tickets to all four days of events: $85. Children 16 and under free with paying adult.
