OTISFIELD — The Oxford Educators Association-Retired will meet on Friday, June 17, at East Otisfield Baptist Church on Rayville Road.

Sign-ins will begin at 10:30 a.m. followed by a business meeting, then dinner served by members of the church. The program will be a memorial service for educators who passed away during the last year.

The May meeting was held at the Bethel Alliance Church. Nghia Ha presented “Rumford, A Maine Mill Town.”

Ha came to Rumford from Vietnam when she was 15 years old. When she came to America, she had been taught one English word, “Hello.” When people began saying “Hi” to her, she had no idea what they were saying. She wanted to know about her new home town, and in her effort to do so, she found a book in her school library that had been put together by the local historical society. She was on her way to becoming very involved in the work of local historical societies.

Ha reported that the next big project for Rumford is to digitize the large microfilm collection of the Rumford Falls Times.
